More sports

About 8 months ago, I wrote something about Detroit being arguably the king of the sports world. I think MSU had just come off a national hockey title and the Red Wings and Pistons were both deep in the playoffs. All this coming off of a World Series appearance a few months earlier. Pretty cool.

And although this is only regular season, today was a pretty damn good day for Michigan sports. MSU is heading to the Champs Sports Bowl. OK so what, mid-tier bowl for a mediocre to even bad football team. I'll take it. New coach, young players, Florida for the holidays. Why not? MSU b-ball is ranked 9th in the nation and won a pretty big game today. Don't let unranked Bradley fool you - they treated this game as their National Title game and came out blazing. They also own the 4th longest non-conference home win streak. This game was no gimme.

The Red Wings (best record in the league by a lot) just smoked Montreal. I love beating other original 6 teams ON THE ROAD. By the way - the Red Wings haven't played in Montreal since 2004. Gary Bettman sucks. They haven't played in Toronto since 2003. Bettman has ruined hockey marketing. I read some proposal recently that said to make the original 6 it's own division in the current NHL. Very cool. They should call it the Norris Division in the Wales conference.

Pistons won. 1st place in the division.

Tigers. How can a team not even in action make the biggest noise over 3 big wins today. By signing Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera, that's how. Best lineup in the American League? All of MLB? More than a couple experts think so. Even the sportscaster here in the Bay Area made mention of this lineup. Terry Francona has stated he's officially nervous. Ozzie Guillen wants to know what the difference is pitching to this lineup or the Yankees lineup. ESPN is asking who do you pitch around in the lineup. They now have FIVE bona fide starting pitchers. They go into camp with Bonderman, Verlander, Robertson, Rogers and Willis FIGHTING for a job! And by the way, the 2 guys they gave up (Andrew Miller and Raybin), I actually thought were great.

Great day in Michigan sports.
